USTeleCenters opened its doors in 1987 as the New England franchise of a California-based corporation called USX TeleCenters, Inc., which sold telecommunications equipment to small-to-medium-sized businesses in an upscale, retail setting. In 1988, the Boston-based franchise began to sell network services as an agent of New England Telephone, a predecessor to Verizon. Later that same year the Company purchased the name and other assets from the parent company to become USTeleCenters. In 1989, USTeleCenters pioneered the use of telemarketing techniques to sell emerging telecom services to the rapidly growing small business market; within five years it represented every Regional Bell Operating Company in the country. In 1991, USTeleCenters became one of the first companies to sell video conferencing units in the Northeast. USTeleCenters had grown from a local organization with 10 employees to one with a national presence and more than 200 employees. In 2002, USTeleCenters was purchased by Thomas Wilson and James Mullins. Mr. Wilson and Mr. Mullins have a combined total of more than 39 years of management experience, 25 in the telecommunications industry.
